The Club Championships

• The Club Championships are totally separate competitions to the pointscore.

• Swimmers compete against either the males or females in the same age group and not against their own times. These heats are races.

• Club Championship points are scored according to the places within each age division.

• Club Championship points for all strokes are added together to find the place getters. The more strokes swum, the more points scored.

•Swimmers must qualify for the Club Championships by completing sufficient swims in the pointscore competition as follows:

  • 25m and 50m Club Championships: three swims for each stroke at either 25m or 50m (including time trial).

  • l00m Club Championships: two swims for each stroke (including time trial).

Events in the club championships are as follows:

In case of equal times, the points for the highest position will be scored to each swimmer. E.g. if swimmers swim equal times for third position, each swimmer will be awarded 26 points and the next swimmer will be awarded 20 points.

Age groups for the 2015/2016 club championships are based on the swimmers age on the 4th March 2016

Relays During Club Championships

Relays are events swum by teams of 4 swimmers during the Club Championships. There are 2 relay events, both of which are trophy events:

  • 4 x 50m Medley Relay swum in week 17

    • In this event the swimmers are required to select their own team.

  • 4 x 50m Freestyle relay swum in week 18

    • In this event the committee selects the teams

To be eligible to enter a relay event, the swimmer must have swum at least 1 time in the 50m pointscore for the stroke they are going to swim in order to gain a seed time.

The winning relay team in either event will be determined handicap.

To determine the teams seed time, each swimmers current PB (seed time) will be determined. The addition of each of the team’s swimmers seed time will give a total time which will determine the teams seed time. The team that beats their seed time by the largest amount is declared the winner based on handicap. A negative handicap time is better than a positive time and as is shown in the example below. The fastest team is not necessarily the winning team as you are swimming against your own seed time.

As you can see in this example the second team is much slower than the first but because they have beaten their own seed times by 0.2 of a second they would win the trophy.

Even in Club Championship every person has a chance to win something.

The committee reserves the right to change these rules at any time it sees fit if these rules do not uphold the principles of fair play and a fair go for all or if there is any unintended advantage to one person
